Im new to this forum so Im sorry if this has been posted already. Still trying to find my way around.

Anyways. Im looking to upgrade my camera body. I currently have a Canon Rebel XTi and Im looking at the 50d as my next upgrade or should I try and save up for the 7d?? I shoot a lot of sports, night football, basketball, and needing to bump up my iso is hard with the XTi because at 800 and 1600 pictures start to get pretty grainy. Also the jump from 3 fps to either 6.3 (50d) or 8 (7d) would help greatly. Is the 7d really worth the money?? I also want to buy the grip for either one, I'd be able to get the 50d sooner and would be able to use it for volleyball and basketball this winter. The 7d I prolly wouldnt have til summer.

So what are your opinions??

It's not like you don't have a camera for winter sports. I'd save and get the 7d.

yes but the 50d would help I think. Better results with higher ISO allowing for faster shutter speeds. Is the 7d really that much better?

Right here right now, my answer would be go for 7D. That's because if you are upgrading you might as well get the latest in technology.

But if your funds are limited and you have to wait and save up, then who knows maybe by the time everything is OK, a 50D replacement hits the market. If it ever happens and if you wait long enough, then you will need to see at the time whether 50D's replacement will be good enough for the money (compared to 7D - and 7D's prices will have been dropped by then).

7D!

If you are limited on spending now, save and get the better of the two a little later because it may be longer than that before you upgrade again if you get the 50D now. 7D is a great camera and well worth the wait!

I have both.....both are good. The 7D has many advantages, but the 50D is no slouch. SO, if you don't have all of the lenses that you want, get the 50D and glass!

I chose the 50D and used the money saved to upgrade my walkaround lens also. I know I will eventually get a 7D but am happy with the 50D for now.

7D if you don't mind the additional $$$.

Although both are very capable bodies, certainly more capable than most of their users, but 50D represents a EOS body that is behind the competitions and 7D is/should be a EOS body that is at least on par with its competition if not better.

No.

You may want to consider the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS or Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 VC (might be hard to find, they were JUST released).

I see you have the 70-200 f/2.8 IS. how is that performing in low light with your XTi?

While the 50d will be a slight improvement over your XTi in terms of noise, the 7D will be more of an upgrade in that department. However I think getting some good glass (perhaps 85mm f/1.8, 135 f/2L, etc) would benefit you more then bumping up the ISO on a new body.

A 40d or 50d would definatly be an improvement for sports, I would definatly go with one of those at the very least for what you are shooting. Even my 30d is noticeably better then the XTi for that.
