Hi guys

Just wondering if anyone users the Giotto SP8253 to protect their LCD on 5D MK II?

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …ku=483866&is=REG#features (external link)

I see it's for the 5D but I'm wondering will it work in conjunction with the MK II?

Also does anyone have any recommendations for similar LCD protectors for the MK II?

Thank you

this is what i did.. go on ebay and buy yourself a matte screen for the apple iphone and just cut it out for your 5dmkii. it works wonders in bright conditions.

i just got one of those from b and h when i was on holiday and i think its great.

It all depends on how rough you are with the camera. If you are careful with the camera then marloons way will be fine, if you are going to bash it around a bit then a stronger protector would be the safer option.

Yes and on my 40D.

I got my 40D one last year and i cracked it when i dropped it. Much cheaper to replace than a new lcd.

What you're overlooking is that the "LCD" on the 5D, like virtually all the other EOS Digitals, is actually a very hard plastic cover over the real LCD; it's an inexpensive part from Canon Parts, and can be replaced by the end user. The only exception to this to date is the 7D, which has a glass cover, but is still highly resistant to almost anything you can do to it. If you cracked the cover you applied to the LCD protector Canon provided, but not the Canon plastic, then the "protector" you bought didn't protect anything. I've got cameras that are showing bare metal all around the screen, but no scratches on the Canon screen cover; they're that tough.

Dont bother, the "LCD" screen you see on pretty much all canon DSLRs IS in fact an LCd protector. They are in fact replaceable and from what I understand under $10 shipped from canon to replace.

Yes, very easy to replace if you actually ever need to. Any further cover you put on the LCD will just degrade the image you see.

how do you get the canon ones off if you need to replace them?

It look like less than 1mm gap round it.

Pull straight up using a suction cup.

I use that for my 40D, but not as an LCD protector since there is already a protector. I like the anti-reflective coating which makes the glare better in the sun.

Jon and ben_r...thanks for the info...learn something new every day! I'm guessing the 30D falls into that category of replaceable screen covers? I've owned 5 Canon DSLRs so far and I've yet to scratch a screen *knock on wood*, but it's good to know if something bad happens it's not the end of the world :)

Would you put a protector on a 7d?

For everyone's knowledge, I just purchased the LCD replacement plate for the 5d mk II and it cost $24 and then the double sided tape that goes with it was another $1.50. I'll try to take some pictures of the process of how I replaced it. If anyone has any advice for me before I replace mine to make it easier I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
