Second outing as the "Official" photographer for the team. This time used my 135 f2.0 L lens a fair bit which allowed me to shoot at 2500 ISO instead of 3200 ISO and I must say produced better results than last week as far as noise issue are concerned. I also stuck my 70-200 f2.8 back on my 40D and tried that some more too at 3200 ISO (Image 7 and eight) and again was happier with how the 40D handles 3200 ISO noise. Here is a sample of images. I've seen so much women's college hockey recently that these guys look HUGE! The guy in #5 has to be 6'8 though right? I don't see anything wrong with the pictures by the way.. good 'stock' images when you need one of a given player.

Were the 3200 iso pictures post processed? Did you have to use Noise Ninja?

Daren:

I usually PP all shots, primarily a boost in exposure/lights and a touch of "blacks" or contrast, crop as needed and also adjust the white of the ice if blown out too much. I use the NR feature in Lightroom which, for my purposes, usually works OK. For ISO 3200 and 2500 usually I use the Luminence setting at ~75 and the Color setting at ~50. I did not use any other NR software on these.

Cheers!

Chris

DH:

Actually the player in #5 and #6 is listed only at 6'0 and 195lbs. Player in pic #7 is listed at 6'4".

Chris, they look very nice. The only real crit I'd offer is that you could eliminate some dead space in a few and I would not be afraid to use that 135 at higher ISO then bring it down, rather than up in post. It might brighten your ice slightly which I'd like.
