Wondering if any other user is experiencing the following:

Since I downloaded and installed the latest DPP update I have experienced occasional (but consistent and frequent) crashes (in both Vista Home Premium 32 and XP Home 32 on two different systems) when using the "Edit Image" window, when I attempt to delete a photo from the selected group by right clicking and selecting "Delete from List". This does not happen as often or as quickly when I use the "ALT-Delete" keyboard shortcut; but also eventually occurs (the fault seems to happen especially easily if I do the deleting quickly, especially when I am using the mouse).

Clearing the problem with CTRL-ALT-DELETE and "End Program" works, and takes you back to the "main Image" window, with the images previously selected still highlighted, and you can then re-enter the "Edit Image" window and continue editing.

This had never happened with previous versions.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Maxdave

Because it refuses to update on my PC I'm sensitised to any negatives I hear, but v 3.7.2 seems to have more problems than previous versions. I've not heard anyone else have your particular problem however. Maybe Canon rushed a half-finished product just to get the 7D out?

Maybe v3.7.3 will be more bulletproof.

I have DPP ver3.7.2 on each of my computers, the desktop has Vista Home Premium 64 bit and the laptop has the same but 32 bit. Both work perfectly. I had no difficulty downloading or installing and both have been bug free. I can't explain why things went so smoothly, just luck, I guess, but I'm grateful that things went so easily.

No problems here on XP pro and W7 HP with the latest DPP 3.7.2
Saying that i do find some actions can take a bit longer than they should, like closing the edit window.
Not had it crash or hang though.

There was someone on DPReview who found DPP wasnt correcting barrel distortion on import from her S90 but after a re install it worked ok.
Maybe a re install is called for.

I can't reproduce the problem. I opened a folder with 30 images, did "select all", opened Edit Image window, opened thumbnails, did right click/"delete from list" 30 times. No crash. XP Home.

Exatly the same problem as the o.p. on my XP sp3 desktop after updating to 3.7.2.
Only seemed to happen with folders of around 200-300 RAW files and about 2/3rds the way thru editing.
Try uninstalling DPP, cleaning the registry with CC Cleaner,or similar and manually sweeping the C drive of all folders (empty) marked Canon. A defrag wouldnt go amiss at this point, then reboot and reinstall DPP.
I did this a couple of days ago but haven't shot enough to see if it worked...

I can certainly vouch that mine doesn't like to close after editing. Have the latest version of DPP available. Kinda scares me that I'll lose something after doing a lot of editing when 'not responding' shows up in the top section of the software program!

I had the same problem. Went back to 3.6.10 Vista 64-bit. Versions prior to 3.6.10 crashed just like you described above, but only once in a blue moon. 3.7.2 was completely unusable for me. 3.6.10 seems to be o.k. I'm processing images with between 500-800 images in the folder. More RAM does help.

Maxdave, no problems here. Are your video drivers, Win serv-packs, and such up to date?

Thank you all for your efforts.

Since the problem is now happening on three different systems (one with Vista Home Premium 32, one with XP Pro, and the other with XP Home), I suspect the application itself. I find it hard to believe all these systems, running three different OSs developed issues at the same time with same DPP update immediately after it was downloaded and installed without it having something to do with it. The only common threads were that the previous version (which worked perfectly) was the same version and that I got the latest update from the same site (three separate downloads).

I can work around the program by just deleting (or adding/deleting check mark numbers) slower than I usually would do, and using the keyboard shortcut method rather than the right click menu proceess.

I think when I have the time, I will delete DPP from all three systems, resinstall DPP on all three from my 50D disk, and then update the installations using a file I download from three different sources (if I can find that many).

It could be that updating rather than clean install is the problem.
Ive not had this happen to me (and i tried to recreate it) but both my PCs had clean installs of 3.7.2

I've finally got v3.7.2 loaded and working.

With great trepidation I uninstalled 3.6.1 completely, then reloaded from the original EOS Solutions disk (v12.1) and finally installed the update. Knowing my luck with computers I expected disaster to strike any time, but apart from a slight speed bump at the beginning, when it warned me about a change in the authorisation code (?) which I don't understand, it seems fine.

Twelve hours have gone by. I expect smoke will start coming from the computer any minute now and a picture of an evil clown will appear on your monitor.

Don't joke about such things! I'm expecting that or worse and I'm saying nice calm, gentle things to it just in case it helps.

Great when they work, but a b****y nightmare when they don't.
