Yes, interesting. I saw a significant difference between the two posted photos.

Most everyone in these forums will agree that the quality of the finished product is much more dependant on the non-equipment factors . . . such as access (the pro in the pits will have a good place to shoot from compared to the average fan), post processing skills (again the pro is likely to have much better training, skills and experience to bring out the best of each exposure), and understanding of the art of photography (exposure factors, DoF, composure, etc) than the GWC who points and shoots. The point and shoot crowd will get some good shots to be sure, but I think that is based on the number of shots taken (ie-the more shots by the overall crowd will stand a good chance that some will return good shots) rather than skills and experience of the pro who MUST get good shots, and who is not depending on the "spray and pray" theory of exposures. I don't think the pro (or serious semi-pro) has too much to worry about in ultimate quality and predictability. If the target is just web sites, then the P&S crowd will have plenty to choose from . . .

Might want to at least hint to what the article says.

That "professional" shot wasn't anything to write home about.

Thing I find most annoying about cameras at concerts is the morons that stand there with their camera above their heads the entire show blocking people's view. That's why I don't mind the "no cameras" policies.

Headline reads "Music industry bows to point-and-shoot cameras"

First two paragraphs:
At last month's huge U2 show at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., how could you tell the difference between the professional photographers and your average amateurs?

Answer: the professionals were the ones whisked away after Bono and friends finished their third song, and the amateurs were still there, happily shooting to their heart's content.

If you click on the link, yes. But someone reading the thread has no idea what the link goes to, other than cnet. I'm just saying that maybe you'll get more discussion and more people will click the link if they have a clue what it is about. A lot of people won't click random links without knowing what its about. "Interesting Read!" doesn't tell me anything.

This isn't my thread, I was just posting the info so that, as you said, people won't have to click the link just to see what it's about.

Oops, sorry. I read it the wrong way and shouldn't have gotten argumentative. My apologies!

This is hardly limited to concert venues... It's everywhere now: sporting events at all levels, auto races, you name it...

Pros are under an exponentially increasing pressure to produce unique products that differ from what any regular audience member might be able to get on their own.

In other words... Our customers are also our competition.

I agree. Even for weddings it getting harder, people just dont seem to care about nice large prints anymore. I went to a friends wedding. He bought a bunch of 12mp P&S Casio cameras. The guest actually did a great job and he returned them to costco the day after the wedding. Even if he didnt return them the 3k was well spent for the photos they got.

Agreed but I dont think it will be long before somebody starts renting P&S packages. I thought about it myself after he told me what he was doing. They got plenty of great 8x10's and hundreds of good 4x6's.

Seen the same thing done at an office Xmas party. It's interactive and fun. But is heavily dependent upon the audience. Much more suited to a younger generation.

Sorry for not placing more info in the OP.
