This regional final soccer match put the Bay Rockets with a 16-1-3 record against the Lexington Minutemen with a 16-4-1 record. The first half ended in a 0-0 stalemate but the second half was almost all Bay who eventually won the match 4-1. [/FONT]With the victory, Bay won their second consecutive regional final and heads to a state final-four match against Mentor Lake Catholic this evening.

Apart from the game, my gear was also going to be tested as I had jsut gotten my MkII back from CPS and was anxious to try it out. I had been really struggling with it but didn't want to blame the gear. Turns out I should have as Canon did find that the AF was not properly functioning. A few new parts and some adjustments and it was back in my hands to try out and WOW was I thrilled with the fix. The camera performed like new and for the first time in a while, I had confidence in my gear.

Without anymore babbling, here are some images from the match. Exif intact, please feel free to crit, always appreciated.

Thanks Vin. This team is coached by as good a coach as you could ask for. He's built a program, not just a team and they had tremendous success over years and years. Basically, they celebrate a little but the goal is a state title and the culture of the program seems to be that you really let loose once you've reached your goal and in the meantime, be a gracious winner. His system works and the kids love and respect him so no one is arguing. My kid plays for him as a freshman and I can say firsthand that these are his kids as much as the parents (probably more) during the season so they play by his rules. The jube will come, hopefully this Friday afternoon with a state trpohy in hand!

Ahhhh ... that is what I was thinking. As a HS Coach, there is nothing better to win like champion, lose like a champion and act like you've been there before 100x's.

Great shots. #5 is probably my favorite.

The distortion on the team photo bugs me though. I'd have probably use a little longer FL and backed up a bit. I know that sometimes that isn't possible with other parents all trying to get some team shots as well though.

Thanks Derek, almost resorted to the fisheye, talk about distortion! You're right, parents everywhere and I completely understand that they want/deserve their images as well. Hopefully my freshman will be standing there in a year or two with them and then I can be THAT parent, lol!

The good thing is that only us photo geeks will likely ever notice/care. :)

So far, so good here. They were all shot RAW so nothing in camera at all. I cropped and straightened in PSE6 then did one USM pass at 65/.6/4 so very little sharpening done since it really wasn't needed, just enough to overcome the AA filter.

Thanks Dave, just wish I were covering the finals if we win tonight. One of these days, we gotta shoot together. Hoops season started last night with an exhibition game for the Vikes. I didn't shoot it but will be covering them again this season so let me know if you sneak up for a game....

Good to hear Scott. My MII was much better when it came back. Too bad my MIII is back at CPS. Bad front focus problem and had to do a global +10 for all lenses. These look good, esp. #3. Any way you could have removed the goal post for the last. :p I'm looking forward to soccer starting here.
