Hello,

I hope this is the proper forum for this. It's a review of both lens config and camera body, so I could not decide which dedicated forum to put it in... Anyway...

I just upgraded my 450D to the 500D for various reasons, and have been loving this camera... The upgrade was defiantly worth it. We finally got a nice day so we headed to the zoo. I brought along the camera with my 70-200 f/4 and my Tamron 1.4x TC.

Now, before I only had pictures of planes using this combo, so I was curious to how it would do at the zoo.

I came home and was very impressed by the photos I got. I never had gotten images so sharp before to be honest. I know many people stay away from TC's due to IQ drop, but I could NOT see this in my photos. Even at 280mm, images sharp as can be.

Got some examples below... Raw->Jpeg via PS as about all I did to them.

and a 100% crop at 280mm...

Overall, I am VERY happy with the TC on my 70-200... I hope this can show some not to be afraid of them! Especially for the $140 or so I paid for mine, brand new... :D

If it's the Tamron SP AF 1.4X TC (the white model) you've made a good choice.. It's one of the best 1.4X TCs on the market.. I've had mine for nearly 4 years and its image quality never fails to amaze me..

Yes it is the white, pro model TC.

I was worried when I bought it because many people report IQ drop, even with the canon model. But I have been surprised how the IQ is barley touched, if at all! Very nice to have, that is for sure!

Actually there is a slight drop in image quality but it's not noticable unless you're blowing your images up to poster size.. For everyday use and sizes you'll not see the difference..

BTW,,the Tamron TC in my opinion is better than its Canon equivalent.
