books on lightroom 2.5......

i just upgraded my lightroom to 2.5 and i was wondering if someone could recommend a book that explains the use of some of the new features.

If it was an earlier version of Lightroom 2 I don't think there are any titles that address differences between the current version and earlier versions of LR2. In any event those differences are mostly related to performance improvements and not features.

I strongly recommend reading the Lightroom 2 User Guide. Adobe does not make it easy to find on their website but its an excellent manual; well-written and certainly not jargon-laden.

It is also updated fairly regularly and covers everything you'd need to know about Lightroom 2.

I'd be lost without it.....

I cannot recommend any LR books myself as I have not purchased any. For people who already know that they will upgrade to LR3 when it is released the download might be enough until the updated books for version 3 are published.

I have a fairly extensive list of Lightroom books and frankly the User Guide is all one needs to get up to speed. It is extremely well written - unlike most manuals - and easy to read. When I look at my books, most of them simply rehash the User Guide and add photos. The one exception would be The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 Book: The Complete Guide for Photographers by Martin Evening.

When I started with Lightroom I got a copy of the User Guide printed and bound at Fedex/Kinko's for about $12. I kept it by my workstation and after going through the portions that interested me a few times I was fully up to speed.

I'm glad the User Guide link got posted -- I got stuck on LR 1.4 but downloaded Beta LR 3 Beta and there is no help at this point, but almost all of LR 3 is in LR 2 as far as useage goes, so thanks!

i've used LR 1 and 2 for the past couple of years and i have several books including the one by tim grey, which i recommend.

i was just hoping there was something more current out that discussed use of newer features like the GND filter.

Ed, have you read the actual LR2 help on those tools? There's a pretty decent amount of discussion on the Local Adjustment Tools in the Retouching and Correcting Photos section of Chapter 8.

I didn't realize that these things weren't covered in the LR2 retail books. Those books are generally written during the Beta period, but I thought the local adjust tools were available then.

If they aren't, besides the Help (which should have an Updated date of Sept. 3 '09) I'd imagine the best resource would be the Adobe tutorials and the Kelby website tutorials, such as found at LightroomKillerTips.co​m.

maybe Tony. i never got past the original LR books. i just upgraded to LR 2.5 and i assumed that i just got the new features but maybe i've had them since i upgraded to LR 2 (earlier this year when i got the 1ds mark III) ?

you see, i really need a book........

Well, Ed, check out LR Help, I've always found them really good, and I'd imagine that if you did pick up even an LR 2.0 book it would have the basics -- that's pretty much how they are designed so they will work with 2.0 and the updates.

I agree Martin Evening has the best book .The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Book 2 .
Very very detailed in all aspects.
