I just ordered the Skyport universal set for my 580ex II. Then, I ended up reading somewhere that it will not work once I get it due to not having the right cables.

Here is what comes with the set...
Synchron Cord 3.5-Amphenol / 40 cm
Synchron Cord 3.5-3.5 / 40 cm
Synchron Cord PC-2.5 J / 20 cm
EL-Skyport Receiver Universal
EL-Skyport Transmitter
Synchron Adapter 6.2 - 3.5 J

Does that sound like I am going to need something different, still? I am leaving the country early Monday and am concerned that I may not be able to get something in time if this doesn't have what I need.

Thanks for any help!

The 580EX II just takes a simple PC male plug. You will need to purchase it separately. You want 3.5mm miniphone to PC.

Is it the same as this?

As long as it's 3.5mm miniphone and not 2.5mm. The 2.5mm included with the Skyport kit is for the transmitter, not the receiver. 3.5mm is for the receiver.

You can save yourself a couple of dollars by getting this one:

Or, for just a couple of dollars less than the price of the B&H one, you can upgrade to a better cable that has a Screwlock PC:

Thanks for the help. I know that Zebra has them, but I cannot get them from them before I leave the country. I am running out of time is my problem, so I am looking at the only places that will still ship.

Am I seeing things, or is that a B&H logo right in the middle of the picture on Samy's site?

This hotshoe cable (external link) works with any speedlite, and any other flash I bet. I don't like PC cords.

I think the hotshoe adapter should work, but I cannot tell from the picture (including the one on Paramount's site) how it attaches to the stand. Is it assumed that it has something underneath that I am not seeing that slides into the stand's hotshoe holder?

I assume that the 580ex II sits on this recommended adaptor, then the adaptor slips into the hotshoe receiving on the stand? Maybe that is assumed and it is my lack of familiarity with it to assume that. I want it to be right because it is going to cost me $60 to get one, by the time I do overnight shipping.

Thanks, again, for all the help. I appreciate getting this number of replies for such a small issue.

That's what I use.

Every hotshoe adapter I have seen has a 1/4-20 threaded hole in the bottom. I would bet good money that the Paramount version does as well.

If you go with a PC cord rather than a hotshoe adapter, you can use the plastic foot stand that comes with the 580EX II (it also has a 1/4-20 threaded hole in the bottom).

Ok, great. I feel better about it. Hopefully that takes care of it.

Thanks, again!

The paramount hotshoe thingy has a screw hole underneath, I fit it to the smaller of the standard light stand mounts via an umbrella adapter.
