This is my first time posting surf pics up. A friend of mine who owns a photography shop loaned me a 70-300 non is so I figured I'd try it out here. I wasn't able to get to the location until about 5 or 5:30pm. The sets that these guys were getting weren't that good either but they had a good time. I showed them the pics and they loved it.

I'm jealous of the warm water and it looks like a fun little wave.

Exposure/WB looks a bit off. Composition looks good.

I think its actually harder to shoot average surfers and make them look good. Pro's can make any wave look good and are a lot more predictable about where they will launch or smack the lip. I would try to find some really good locals and follow them for a session rather than just show up at a break and take shots.

I don't mind the WB as it's late light. I didn't change the exposure in this, but did bring up the black level & sharpened the guy just a touch. If this doesn't look better to you, keep in mind that you need to calibrate your monitor, properly set up the prefs in your editing program, and should use a color managed browser, too. Lose one leg of that three legged stool, & you're going to fall on your... ;)

This looks better to me although I am in my office which is not calibrated (home computer is dialed in).

I hear the outer reefs get pretty heavy there...and break over very sharp, shallow reefs.
