I put some peanuts on this stump to attract the Steller's Jays, and this Abert's Squirrel jumped up there. He sniffed the peanuts and then moved on. I thought for sure he would eat them! These squirrels live far in the woods and have not seen too many people or people food.:D

Beautiful shot. I really like the looks of those Abert's. I've never seen one in person, but they look neat with those big tufts of fur on their ears.

Thank you, they are cute squirrels and very curious. They live up in the pine trees and come down to gather food and to drink. I sit really still in a chair with camo on and they will walk right up and never see me. If I move at all they're gone! With those long toes and claws they can run up and down trees quickly. It's very entertaining to see them while I'm photographing birds. :D

Thank you Sharon, they are really cute squirrels and fun to see. Most people with backyard feeders hate squirrels, but I don't have a feeder and these guys don't eat bird seed either.

Obviously something wrong with a squirrel that won't eat peanuts. :)

Thanks Gail, I thought he would really dive in on those peanuts. Even the chipmunks walked right over them. I had opened up some too! Crazy country critters.:D

I agree Mitch, I think these squirrels are strange in that way. I had some organic sunflower seeds on the stump last week, no shells, and one of these Abert's tasted some and then left. I think something will eat the peanuts, and they should be gone the next time I go out there.

Thanks Marcy, these live way out in the woods and most likely don't see many people. They see me, and probably wonder what I am. No taste for peanuts yet!
