Looking thru the (downloaded)manual for the upcoming 1D iv, there lies a reference in custom functions to a 400 f2.8 L lens, anyone heard anything? Let something slip here??

I was thinking the OP meant a totally new 400 f/2.8L IS

I suppose you are referring to page 218 in the pdf UM.
I think you find the lenses here:
