Here's a good starting point: What is the important part of this photo? The child, yes? So crop out the fence, the houses, the clutter and let's just see HIM.

i think its fine the way it is, you used a shallow DOF enough to blurr out the background object, so that they dont take away from the kid.

only thing i dont like its that its too centered!!
