Street Festival

These are just some of my favourites taken at a local street festival.
I finally had a chance to test out my 16-35 lens, and I am now officially happy.

This first image was taken with the 135L though. I was talking to my friends, and a lady behind me was talking loudly in my direction. I was worried at first because she was with a little girl, and I thought maybe she was upset that I might have taken a picture of her. On the contrary! She said "if you want to see photogenic, take a picture of MY little girl!" So I asked her if it was ok, and she shyly nodded.
Btw, it was overcast all day, so the images may lack a little pop.
I apologize if the images take a while to load. Fotop seems to be having problems.

WOW to the 1st and 2nd shot!!! That lens is nice and sharp wide open..........

Beautiful colors as always...........

BTW, I see catchlights on thier eyes..............did you by any chance use fill flash??

Yes, both the 16-35 and 135 are sharp wide open.
I actually find the 16-35 to be sharper at the wide end than at the long end, which seems weird. I never thought a wide angle lens at 16mm could be sharp at F2.8, but this lens proved me wrong.
But, there is an untangable with this lens. It has magical contrast and colour, much like the 135/2.
And Roanjohn, I was carrying around with the 420EX all day. The sun NEVER came out, and this is almost ideal for photography. The only thing is that there is some "pop" missing, that I hoped to regain with the flash. I think that some post processing by somebody more talented than I could probablly achieve this.

I forgot to mention, I had my new POTN strap in use. What a difference compared to the default Canon strap. I LOVE it. Thanks again Phil

Hey......nice shots!! And that is one sweet wide angle lens!! I too found it to be excellent and the colour was something else.......you can sure tell that the first shot is from the 135!!

And schmoelzel, thanks. They don't have the pop that your pictures usually have, but the lens is obviously not to blame.
An interesting note about the fill flash. I know you have said that you just turn the flash on, and let the camera do the rest. I found I had to turn down the FEC by -2, otherwise the shadows were too strong. It almost made the images look like "snapshots".

Oh, and Sandy, I too like the one with the bear stuffed in upside down *lol* I hadn't noticed that until you pointed it out. I think he has it holstered in there, much like a samurai holsters his sword over his shoulder so he can swing it out in time of need.

With the 1D I get a sync speed of 1/500 which is even better than the 1DMII!! Why they did this is beyond me..........I can shoot with full flash to about 1/8000 and not blow the exposure! That is with the 420EX set to hi-speed sync of course........I'd like to be more precise with the technique that I use but it really is just turn the thing on and hope for the best!!

I just adjusted the curves a bit on #2 to give it a little more life.
That is funny about the 1D MKII having only a 1/250 sync flash. Very bizarre.
I dont find that my exposures get blown at all, ETTL-II is very good in this respect. I just find the shadows a bit too harsh. Also, the flash has a very cool light compared to the ambient. So, people faces tend to look a little "washed out".
