Not sure if this is in right area but as it's mostly concerning lenses I thought it was.

I live in Australia and I wish to insure my cam body and glass around $12k aud right now but growing gradually and by this time next year will be over $25k

Can anyone recommended insurance companies or deals for photographers?

I'm not pro but I have pro gear I do a few paid jobs but not many. I do use my gear in high risk dangerous areas so I want the most comprehensive cover I can get (for a decent price!!)

Thanks guys!

-I did a search prior to posting this topic. I couldn't find anything on insurance for Australia

Would also like some information on this. Searching didn't yield anything for me either.

I use a broker for my home contents insurance and I have a very high level of cover that covers most of my equipment all around Australia. However I have an extra cover added to my contents insurance that covers me worldwide for the 5D MKII and 24-105, 70-200. I think it cost about an extra $70 per annum - I'm with CGU Insurance.

5D MKII - Accumulating way too much gear - bring on retirement so I have time to use it.......

Cheers Sunny Girl :)

I'd like to keep this separate of home and contents if possible.

Comes down to cost and cover mostly but I don't to muck up H/C premium's if I need to make a claim

When I asked Suncorp for cover on my 4yr old PC, screen, $1000 laptop, 1D Classic and 70-200mm f4, plus smaller office items, they were happy until I told them I'm a web/software developer and would at some time use all the gear towards that purpose. They then suggested I contact a broker, suggesting that the business premium would be more per year than any one of the individual items.

I would not include any of the items under H&C as I had a mobile phone stolen, 15+ years ago when they were expensive, and had the claim declined as I would use it for work.

Did you end up chasing up a broker?

I recently checked with my insurer as i wanted to take my entire kit (including several K worth of lighting) with me on a holiday down south.
My already expensive premium whilst having no limit on camera gear within my house did not cover me for outside the house.
I asked for coverage of $30K for my holiday for 1 week. Cost was about $70!!

The woman told me i could get it reduced but would need to provide them with purchase details, serial numbers etc etc.
As i was on my way out the door in a couple of hours i had no choice.

I also enquired with regards to coverage outside of Oz but was not at all cost effective, even for partial kit.

I called one, they took my details, sighed, promised to call back and never did. Someone wanting the cheapest possible deal on a few grands worth of old gear wouldn't be my highlight of the week either.

So, I decided that I would just 'self-insure'. I'm really only going to be in trouble in case of a total loss, in which case a PC would be my first purchase and the other items would follow along later.
