Last Call with Carson Daly is on right now. They had a pull-back shot during an interview and it showed what looked like a 7D being held in front of Carson as the main camera for that interview. It had a "Litepanels.com" panel on top of the hot-shoe. I didn't see any other modifiers which seems odd. But I guess you don't need to refocus for a pool-side interview.

The videographer hand held the camera.

Couldn't see the lens, but it must have been pretty short. Maybe a 50mm? It had IS though. Since the handheld video was pretty stable and showed a bit of what would call the "IS wobble".

No audio going into the camera. The pull-back showed a boom mic held overhead that must have been connected to it's own recorder.

Anybody else see this?

Just had another shot with the camera man leaning back casually in a chair across from Carson with the 7D in his hand. The lens is a zoom lens. Can't tell which one. No litepanel in this shot, which is amazing since it's in a music studio now that doesn't look well lit.

Well, I hear that the new Saturday Night Live's opening sequence was shot with a Canon 5DMII and a 7D. I hear lot of TV folks are moving to HD dslr's for short clips and such. I guess it's much cheaper.

I too saw this episode (with the pull back shot showing the camera op in the chair) and was wondering what kind of camera was being used. Very cool that you spotted this!

I noticed that some of the shots in the new-er episodes of Last Call have been very, very sharp -- definitely with the use of a lens (even in fair to low-light settings), and I've been wondering since then what they upgraded to. From older episodes, it looks like they've been shooting with Panasonic DVXs.
