Willkommen. Bienvenue. Welcome. C'mon in.
Welcome to the assylum oops i meant forum.
Just pull up a chair and dont be afraid of asking questions. Someone somewhere will have had the problem before and will be able to help you. Also the search feature in the toolbar can be very useful if you know roughly what you want.
And dont be afraid to join in the chat threads - we dont bite (well some do but only if you ask real nice

)
Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! (and in multiple langues no less!)
Luckily, I'm not a newb when it comes to forums, so I'm very familiar with the search function... I have no doubt in my mind that I will screw up and ask a few questions that have been discussed to death... and in that case, feel free to call me a newb, and point me in the right direction of the threads I should have found in my searching...
The amount of information here is already somewhat mind boggling, but I'm trying to be a sponge and absorb everything that I can... The skill of the majority of members here is AMAZING!!! Hopefully, I'll be able to improve on my skills and become a somewhat regular contributor.
I'm reading : "Digital SLR Handbook" by John Freeman & "The BetterPhoto Guide to Digital Photography" by Jim Miotke right now... I have "Understanding Exposure" on the way from Amazon... hopefully I'll get that soon... But, I'm trying to get my hands on everything I can so that I can learn...
For the most part, to this point, I've been shooting on Auto mode on my S5IS, with the exception of playing with some exposure time on the fireworks shots... So, I'll be studying up on the more advanced (for me) settings... I could have done this with my S5, but I recently got married and I wanted to get a DSLR before our honeymoon in December, so I figure this is a good time to learn a bit more.

I'm not a professional photographer, and I don't want to be.
