thanks for making this thread better than imagined.

Agreed with removing the chains from an entertainment point of view. I think that shows how our attitude towards the world around us has changed over the years. So as a history piece it shows well that as a species we can show a distinct lack of compassion in what we do in the search for entertainment.

We haven't come that far.Hoff.had you been to the Vancouver Game Farm in the last 10 years or so.maybe longer.?They still kept that elephant in a shackle.

I thought this was an interesting take on a photo session.lol.who would have thought this up.

I know I've seen the original before (sans hats and monocles) but I'll be dipped if I can find it on the Interwebs.

I thought it looked like Avedon, as I have a few Glam books from that era...unusual setting to say the least.

First of all, I am not a card carrying member of an extremist animals rights movement. However, I do volunteer for a marine mammal and sea turtle rescue organization. It gives one an appreciation that species lower on the phylogenetic tree do have intelligence and needs that deserve recognition. So the image does bother me in principle. However, as you mentioned, it is an archival print from an under-the-bed shoe-box collection. It has worth, if only from a historical perspective, perhaps even to illustrate the subjugation theme that I mentioned. But for casual or entertainment use, I would try to minimize the circumstances under which the shot was taken and lose the chains. Fair enough?
