I've seen some beautiful pictures of Wedding Invitations with the couples rings on them. What lense would you recommend and the setup (diagrams would be great).

Also would like to try a wine glass with rings inside, again any ideas.

Thanks in advance! There are some fantastic photographers here and any help would be greatly appreciated.

24-70 will get you close, but it's not a true macro. For really tight ringshots, a 100mm macro works really well. Just remember to keep your shutter speed way up because camera shake is tough handholding macro.

I use a 100 F2.8 macro, but if I was buying now i'd get the EF-s 60mm macro (external link). Shorter lens = more depth of field, which is what you need with macro images.

I have an assistant hold an off camera softbox with radio triggers, but i've had good luck with a fast 30mm prime and ambient light too.

Or shoot the rings and wine glass separately and then use photoshop to put the rings in it.

I just picked up the 100 IS macro and will be using that. Had been using the 24-70 on a crop body, but still found myself having to crop down quite a bit to get the composure I wanted. And I hate throwing away pixels that I've already paid for.

I know what you mean. I have a pic of a couple in a wine glass and if I could find someone to turn that into a template (remove the current couple) then it could be used for rings also and I'd send it to you. I have been on 3 boards so far and have asked around and no one either doesn't know how to make a template from a current image or isn't willing....so much for the photographic community helping one another.
