I do quite a bit of outdoor photography and I'm always worried about scratching my camera body. I currently own a Canon EOS 50D. Just wanted to know if anyone has had experience using this product and how good does it really work? Any input would be deeply appreciated! Here is the link in case anyone is interested:

Take Care and May God Bless!

P.S. I'm also assuming it assists in keeping dust and water out. Would this be correct??

I honestly don't know anybody that uses that stuff I played around with a body that had it at a camera shop once and really didn't like it all the buttons didn't have the right feel and just made things harder to do I don't see it really keeping any dust out and certainly not water as it is not bonded to the body if anything I think it would act more like one of the rubber sleeves I had for my iphone where dirt and dust got under it an was then ground into the case doing more damage than without it. Just my 2 cents

Yeah i think its more of a gimmick. I've never actually seen anyone using it. I suppose it would prevent scratches on the body, but it wont really protect the body from much else. It definitely wont improve the quality of your shots ;-)a

If you drop your camera it will still be broken, even inside the armor. So a definite no buy for me. And scratches on the camera have their charm. Shows where you've been :-)

I have a rifle and a video camera. I would be glad to do a test if someone would be willing to lend me a camera with body armor and one without.

Rock climbing, maybe. Otherwise, no.

Scott Tallyn (of www.tallyns.com (external link)) has an interesting conversation piece on his desk. It's a Hasselblad 500C that he shot dead through the wind knob with a 30-06. Nice entrance and exit holes--interesting that the camera held together quite well.

I bought one of these for my 50D, because it was second-hand and cheap. Everybody who's seen it has said that it's perfect - if your name happens to be Batman. Other than that I'll back up the other posts. It feels strange, it makes the camera much more difficult to use and it'll only help protect against light knocks.

I liked it on my old Nikon D40 because it gave me a better grip on the camera since I have large hands. That being said, when I upgraded and shifted to a Canon 50D, I have no use for it since my primary reason for getting it before was to improve the grip, added protection to the body was just a bonus. I do have a glass protector on the LCD though but the rest of the body is robust enough.

It feels kinkier (if that's a word). Yes, one person did comment that it made it into an BDSM camera.

They are pretty [Useless] They trap dirt , water , and a good place for bugs to hide .
I tried an XTI with one on it [at a show] - felt funny - no one could tell me if they produced static electricity when rubbed against a cotton . flannel or wool shirt .
I decided money was better spent on something else .
I was worried about my camera and scratches till I thought about it . I am not going to sell , but I do need a good reason to replace / make my XTI a back-up , scratches is not a good reason .

I recently purchased a T1i. This is my first nice digital camera. Still a film guy at heart. I bought the Armor. It does feel wierd and hides the names of the buttons, not buttons themselves. Also the rubber is useless for protection of a hard bump. It does have a nice LCD cover. But I wish I would have seen this thread before I bought it. Will try and work with it, but it may go bye bye.
