Nice shot Watt! I have the Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC, is yours the vc? Anyways, I'm loving mine so far very sharp. What is your take on it?

Watt100, that daffodil pic is gorgeous. Stunning color and great composition!
How do you like the Tamron 17-50? I've been thinking about that lens to replace the XSi kit lens.

non-vc taken with a CPL filter
If you don't need IS the Tamron 17-50 2.8 is a good upgrade from the 18-55IS, sharper and a constant f2.8. For me it's essentially replaced the kit lens and 50mm 1.8

Yeah that pic is stunning! So crisp & clear. Nice work. What brand cpl filter did you use? I am looking for a good one and am just getting into working with the Xsi.

for a long time I didn't use any filters because I bought a cheap ebay filter and it degraded IQ and affected AF but recently someone gave me an old Sunpak circular polarizing filter (67mm) and in the right light it can improve contrast/color especially landscape and situations where the light is just right (like the above shot). I usually leave it off but in full sun and at the beach I'll put it on

I was thinking about snagging one before my Alaska trip. Just since the sun is going to be glaring of the snow like crazy, might be a good idea!

yeah I hear ya. I am very weary of camera accessories that are extremely cheap. haha. I wouldn't put a $10 filter on a $200+ lens, that's for sure.

a cheap CPL filter on any lens is bad, sure it will make the sky bluer but at a cost - poorer image quality and out of focus shots!

If you buy legit filters, you shouldn't have a problem.

I bought a Hoya UV Filter just for protection purposes the other day off EBay. $13 AUD including post - It's fine. And legit.

i bought a $13 canon UV filter from B&H for my kit lens and it would actually cause inverted ghosting in my images during long exposures. lesson learned, no cheap filters and be wary of all filters during long exposures.
