Just wondering, how many of you use all or nearly all of the options on the Xsi? The various picture styles, the custom functions, the Basic and Creative Zones? I'm finding I tend to use a few of the features over and over and over again and seldom use the others. I almost never use the basic zones, but change the shooting mode quite often, toggling between single shooting and continous shooting.

Opinions and experiences, anyone?

Thanks!

I have had my XSI just over a year, and I usually shoot motorsports most of the time.
Most of the other photog's I work around all use bigger camera's ,but I love mine.
It's light and easy to use and it's got me published twice this year in a MX magazine.
Just need to get that 70-200 2.8f lens.

I like this thread. I right now have a XT and am thinking of getting a refurbished Xsi from Adorama and letting my wife use the XT as she doesn't like her Nikon Coolpix.

I quit nearly 20 years ago. Great photo, in a way. Now I want a cigarette. Lol!

Never use any of them but that is because I shoot RAW and all these settings can be changed in the edit. The data is embedded in the RAW data and used as a starting point in most editing programs but I never worry about them. My brain has enough trouble worrying about Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO settings....:)

LOL ! Same here as i just shoot straight Raw since the Raw photo always look better without hardly any PP in DPP if you shoot in AV mode and get the Aperture set right for the capture and desired bokeh.

I had been shooting Raw + JPeg but found I never was editing Raw and actually have done a grand total of 1 so far. A few days ago I turned on Raw exclusively to force me to edit in that format.

Yes aperture, shutterspeed & ISO are most often enough to keep us busy but I look forward to the day I can also branch out routinely thinking of exposure and white balance. New Yrs resolution?

On occasion I use B&W or preferably Sepia and I know some people have gone into sharpness (etc) settings and changed default output. Rebels & some might argue Canon's in general tend to overexpose so some people have confronted that in settings also.

Love the idea of this, would make a good anti smoking poster. i also quit about 8 years ago, wonder how i ever could afford them now.
Would suggest you smooth/blur out the straight line shadow part under the cap so it blends in better though.

The problem with shooting jpeg is that if you get it wrong you are stuck with the settings you have when you took the shot. The camera is PPing the raw file in the camera but if you shoot RAW then you can change these settings at any time.

The added bonus is that you don't need to change several settings before you shoot which can give you those vital seconds to get the shot you want.

Exposure metering is really the only one that you need to think about but even that can be saved if you shoot in RAW.

Nice shots, EmmaRose. :)

So.... question. Do you need to buy a program to be able to edit RAW photos? I'd like to try it out since I have only shot in JPEG, but don't want to be stuck with photos I can't do anything with. :)
