Yes, that was the lens. This was the fastest action shooting I've ever done, so I was pleased I was able to get some decent shots and the lens worked fairly well. Most difficulties I had were operator error!

Just joined the club! It's really not for me but for the GF. Lately, she has been showing interest in photography, especially when we go on our trips. It will also save me time since I can mount the telephoto on one body and the wide angle on the other. I think I got a good deal... Paid $150 for the body with accessories and box. Can't wait for the weekend to give it a go!

I'm new to this forum so I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this. I've done some experimenting with hi iso settings achieved in post processing because 450d "only" goes to iso 1600, so i thought i can share that with you... All the samples are processed from raws. Iso 3200 is iso 1600 with 1 stop underexposure and then pushed in ACR... Iso 6400 is iso 1600 with 2 stop underexposure an then pushed in ACR...

Crops: Iso 1600

And here is the real world sample of iso 6400:
All the images are with default ACR noise reduction: Luminance 0; Color 25; Color Detail 50;
It's probably best to download the pictures and view them out of browser. I use Opera and the pictures are a lot noisier...

I've also increased the ISO in post processing, ISO 3200 on the XSi/450D is fairly decent

I have been playing around with my new xsi and I just can't seem to get the aperature iso etc. stuff right. I have a new grandbaby that is changing as I type and I don't have the time to loose making bad pics! I just have the lens that came with the camera. It does zoom but not far. They are fairly clear but something is just not right. If I get too close he actually looks much larger than he is! Any advice?

And how do I attach images for you to critique? It is asking for url? Are there any good photo books out there to help?

For starters have you read the manual. A good book for you also would be one by Bryan Peterson titled "Understanding Exposure"
The best advice I think I would give you as a noobie is to just take picture after picture as practice makes perfect. Use your new baby and play with settings and see what they do and soon you will get an understanding of how your camera works. Once you get that then and only then would I recommend the purchase of another lens. There is also a wealth of tutorials on here and utube.

To upload your image it depends where your image is. If you have the URL say from your Flickr page if you have one then you can just copy paste it in that field. If not you use the field above that where it reads "upload file from your computer", just click on browse and find your image. If you still need help just yell.

That's a quirk of being close to your subject with a wide angle setting. Move back and zoom in for a more natural perspective.

I went to Photobucket and started a free account. I have since upgraded to a paid account. Anyone willing to host my pictures deserves to be compensated. I resize the pictures per POTN posting rules before uploading them to Photobucket (usually 800x533 or 900x600). Digital Photo Professional that came with your camera can do that quickly and easily. By selecting File > Convert and save... you can select an appropriate size and quality before uploading. Once uploaded, mouse over the picture, copy the IMG code and paste that in your post. Your picture will now show up for all of us to view.
