I can appreciate your dilemma. I managed to pick up a Tamron 17-35 mm a while back (I don't think they are still in production) and it is fine with my Xsi and my 5D. As a student you have to purchase carefully, of course. Good luck in school and in your photography!

Here is another image taken in my backyard using the 40 mm. It is of a Photinia (or Red Tip as it is often called) flower ( a Spring bloom...).

Yes, it is so small....I think your 5D III is somewhat heavier than my 5D, so the weight difference with the little 40 mm is so great. Try using it on your5D III also....Joe

I've had this XSi since 2009 and never really gotten around much of using it - then my wife took it for a yr.

Finally just got around to use it more often. I just got the EF50MM f/1.4 last week and playing with it and also just purchased a speedlite 430EX. More pix should come around soon... If I'm gon upgrade I'll probably still have this as a backup.

Here's a sample pic of d wifey getting ice cream at Todai Buffet f/1.8 1/30

Thanks :)

I have been borrowing a Canon 50mm f/1.4 (for my 5D) since january, but I'm not falling in love with it. My plan was originally to buy one and be happy with it :p

That's funny, I've had my brother's 50 1.4 on long-term loan (because I can't afford to buy it) and I LOVE it. It's my default lens. I assume it would be a bit better on FF because on the 450D I always seem to be stepping back a couple feet to get my framing. But I know you are partial to the 60mm so I can see how you want to love the 50 but don't. I love better understanding of other photographer's eye, it's what all makes us a bit unique.

On other topic for some of the new faces in here, the 450D is still my only real camera but I've been using it less lately because we are moving overseas and the process is incredibly intense. I have always dealt with an anxiety disorder and have had to put many things on hold while I handle my current situation. I still update my blog when I have something to share and I feel strange re-posting photos both there and here, but I suppose I should do both because in reality, who really seeks out blogs?

So to share a few more recent photos that I like from when my sisters and their kids came to visit (using a rented 35mm f/1.2 that is perfect for fast kids in small spaces):
