wow, I got mine in '08 but the shutter count was much higher, probably over 75,000

As I recall the rated shutter life for this body is 100k,, though I've seen a lot of anecdotal evidence that it's significantly lower in real life.

How much does it generally cost to service/repair when your shutter dies?

Probably cheaper to pick up another XSi,,,, the bodies seem to be going for $200 or even less these days. I love this camera,,,I'll use mine until it dies,, might give the SL1 a try next though.

I've heard around $200 so it would probably not be economical to pay that for a $150 camera
Looking at some upgrades, (FF is still too expensive!)

Have you looked at the 5D Classic or 1DS? ,, both fine FF cameras that can be had for about $500.

I've looked at the options, FF wouldn't benefit me so much as a newer XX body like the 60D which is starting to look good at $550 (refurb)

Greetings! While I've gotten a couple other Canons since the XSi, I still love my Rebel. It's a solid camera. Here's one I took of my daughter (right) and her friend. The Beauty Queens were playing with makeup. Enjoy!

I just bought a used 40D body last week since it was a good deal for $200 w/ 8k clicks, and now I think I'm getting a separation anxiety syndrome if I dont use the XSi... lol

Been away from these forums for a long, long time. Still snapping away with my beloved XSi. Here are some good shots (all landscapes and panoramas) from my recent trip to Hawaii.

Thanks! It was shot at Mount Haleakala on Maui. One of my favorite places in the world. This was my second time visiting and it truly is a spectacular and desolate place that looks like no other place you'll ever see. It's part moon, part Mars and part lush in different places. We hiked 2 nights and 3 days through Haleakala this time (stayed overnight at the cabins), but you can also go to catch the sunrise at the summit and then do a day hike in and out of Haleakala.

Thanks! The EXIF should be embedded in the image? In any case, here is the info:

Exposure: 30s
Aperture: f/2.8
ISO: 1600

This really wasn't optimal at all. Ideally I would have wanted to shoot this at low ISO for lower noise and to use a smaller aperture for a sharper image. However, I was limited by my Exposure time as 30s is the longest programmable exposure time without using Bulb mode. I was worried about camera shake if I had to manually trigger the shutter open and close in Bulb mode for longer (2-5 min) exposures, but in hindsight, I should have just done that because the amount of light coming through in the 1s of camera shake would have been so minuscule that it really wouldn't have had much impact on the image.

I must say that the ISO 1600, 30s exposure images still looked quite darn good with a little post processing in light room. Shooting in RAW is critical though. I only shoot RAW and I'd never shoot JPEG only because there is so much more information and details that you can capture in RAW and it gives you a lot more to work with when post processing in LR.

Rebel XSi/450D is still a very nice camera when coupled with the proper lens like: EF 50mm f1.8, EF 8-15mm f4 and EF 70-200 IS USM II f2.8
