Any suggestions, tips, warnings?

Joe,

I would remove the cartridges and shake them gently for a few seconds and re-slot them (after initiating the ink-change sequence). The printer will then recharge the cartridges. Do the nozzle check and run a few cleaning cycles if the printout shows clogged nozzles. Two years of quiescence doesn't sound promising. I've had two Epsons over the past 10 years die from nozzle problems, one prematurely. However, those were dye printers if that matters. My current Epson is my first pigment printer and so far (knock on cellulose) it's been clog free for almost a year.

You might post this in RAW, Post Processing and Printing. Perhaps someone there has experience reanimating a printer.

My 1400 was the one that died prematurely. C'est la vie.

Good news!
Following your suggestions, I was able to get the printer going. It took a few head cleanings, nozzle cleanings, and some tears shed over all the ink consumed......but......the colores were fine, however, the print had the look of raked sand. So, a cleaning or two more, and now all seems to be okay.
Now that I know it is operable, I will buy some new inks.

Thanks fosr your help, you always come through....Joe

Help please...
I just got a couple of "new" cameras....an S90 and 450/XSI....
I had to buy a charger, and I got a generic one, along with a generic battery...
The problem I'm thinking I have is determining whether the battery is fully charged in the 450...
Here's a shot of the battery charge icon on the two cameras...both have 2 slash marks, but...
The S90's 2 slashes fill the battery, but the 450's show more room for another slash

IMAGE: http://imageshack.us/a/img571/3497/waru.jpg

My question is this...should the 450 display another slash (for a total of 3) to fill the "battery icon"?

Thank you for your help.

I just called Canon and they told me there should be 3/THREE slashes in the battery...so I'm wondering why only 2 show up...maybe I need to keep the batts in the charger longer...

The instructions say that the light should turn from red to green, but I'm red/green colorblind, so that's not much help....

I like the 511 charger that simply shows an unblinking light when the battery is charged...is that the way the OEM charger works for the 450 battery?

By IT, you mean I'll just get 2 slashes?

Yes. Check the manual:

The XSi is showing the battery as full. It's two dark slashes with three white slashes for a full battery on this model.

For whatever reason the battery indicator on this model shows the final bar on a full charge as being wider than the other two bars, I've never quite figured out if the size is relative to the actual charge on the battery.

I don't have a manual for the 450...but I just downloaded it from CanonUSA...
The icon being filled BLACK in the instructions is different than in the photo (on p. 530 bottom) where there is NO BLACK between WHITE slashes...the display shows black slashes against a white background...

Don't panic,, you just have the screen colors set differently than the default. It's in the MENU options somewhere.
