Scarecrow, and some others

I went to Kings Mountain State Park, South Carolina yesterday. It's only about a 25 minute drive from where I live. Here are some pics from the historic farm. I am planning on going back sometime when the lighting is better.

I really like the third one. Its very rustic, charming.

You think the third one needs to be brightened? I actually darkened it a tiny bit in the edit to match the actual scene. It was a cloudy, hazy day. I thought the dark colors added to the relaxing feel. Could be my monitor though. It's always on "Ultra Bright" mode .

I like number three best, Dave, and I agree the level of darness gives it the right mood. When I see really great shots, they rarely have uniform exposure. Those shadow areas are important.

Thanks Stan. Colors and brightness are so hard to discuss on internet forums because everyone's monitor is different. I rarely calibrate mine so i am never sure if what I am seeing represents what other people see. I check my galleries on various hotel computers and it seems like my home monitor is consistantly brighter than average. A lot of times the shadow areas in my pics are completely black on a different screen. But, most of the hotels I stay in have crumby computer equipment so who knows.

Recently I had a couple photos printed on a very expensive pro printer and the colors nearly matched what I saw while editing them at home. That gives me faith in my monitors calibration, but when I see people say my pics are too dark I get paranoid.

BTW, are you in colorado yet? PM me if I miss when you post your pics. When I am home I watch this forum like a hawk, but if I get called out on a trip I miss days and days of posts.

Dave, tomorrow is the big day for leaving Florida. We stayed here for out grand-daughters' (twins) birthday yesterday. It will take a week to 10 days to get there as we plan to stop for a while in Amarillo. I've always meant to visit Palo Duro Canyon there, and this is the trip for it.

I understand your concerns about monitor compatibility. I noticed some of my shots were over-saturated when seeing them on my son's system (CRT) after editing on my laptop LCD. Then my LCD went black one day and after repair is brighter than before.
