Best CF Card and Reader for 7D

Its been quite a while since I've picked up flash cards for any camera. I have four 4 GIG San Disk 15MB/s cards (100X) cards. They aren't quite fast enough to get the 8FPS burst speeds out of the 7D but work excellent on my 30D

Looking for reliable, affordable CF card and UDMA reader recommendations.

What are you guys using!

TIA!

Don't know if it's what you're looking for but I use Sandisk Extreme III's and photo and 1080p video transfers without a hitch.

I also use a cheap Hama 35-in-1 reader, works plenty fast for photos and video on my PC.

It's all affordable, not the best speeds around but It works great for me and my 7D :)

I use 8gb Extreme IV's and a Kingston 19 in 1 reader, both work great for me.

Any feedback for the Lexar 300X cards or are those two slow for the 7D?

I have a x133 Lexar card and it lags terribly.

I just purchased a 32g Extreme III and @30mb/s, this card flies. 1080p capture and playback are ultra smooth, and I constantly see 8 fps RAW with no problem.

Uploads from Cam ---> PC are decent as well.

I was using an Adata speedy 8gb and an old card reader giving me 500kb/s(yeah..yeah.. I didn't know
/ realise it)

then I went to buy an apacer steno am400 @ usd 8 and I'm getting 12.5mb/s
I also got a Kingston 133x 16gb and with that reader I got close to 22MB/s transfer from reader to PC.

YEAH I'm happy.

The adata will buffer around 7shots
in raw before it stops. Not sure about the Kingston. Didn't check.

I use the new SanDisk Extreme. At 60mb/s (400x) it is both faster than the Extreme IVs and cheaper as well.

Yeah, Sandisk Extreme (or Extreme Pro if you can afford it) plus a Sandisk Firewire 800 card reader.

Photofast G-Monster Plus cards are faster than the Sandisk ones (even the Extreme Pro) but I'm a Sandisk fan.

sandisk ext3 8gb and some 4gb's 30mbs versions, no problems in cam for pics or vid's. I bought a sandisk 400/800 firewire reader but it hasnt arrived yet. My pc only has 400 fw, but I read that even though usb2 and fw400 are rated for similar speeds, the fw reader actually get close to the 40mbs rates. I will post back whether or not it is significantly faster than usb2 when I get it.... come on dhl lol (got a 1tb ehd coming too)

If I were buying a new card now I would get the latest sandisk extreme cards and a firewire reader.

the 2gb extreme 111 cards work but are pretty useless. i think you get 140 shots if you shoot raw on a 2 gb card. 4gb cards are double that at 280 and what ive been using at sessions.

sandisc has a rebate going on..call adorama. we baught three 8gb extreme111 cards. the rebate made them like 42.00 each...A BARGIN. 8gb cards give you the ability to get 560 raw images on a single card. works for me.

Oh, how times change... could you imagine having a roll of 35mm film with 140 shots back in the day?

oh sooooo true:lol::lol:

we are all just toooo spoiled. i know a few guys that like the small cards for wedding work. keeps the getting ready stuff, formals, ceremony shots all seperate in case a card goes bad, you only loose so many shots. but ive never had a card go bad and with the recovery software, im not seeing the need. could bite me in the butt one day. i use 3 cameras so i like the 4gb cards.
