Well I bought a new notebook to replace the one that went kaput, and this new one has Windows 7, I've installed DPP, the eos utility and the wai driver. But my camera isn't being "seen" by the laptop. I checked the canon website and it seems that they have no fix for this (at least to read RAW and control the camera tethered) unless you want to use zoom browser ex (which I don't use) any of you guys got this problem and where able to fix it?

When you say it can't read raw do you mean you can't open a shot that is already on your hard drive or you can't download from the XT to your computer?

While I don't normally use DPP I do have it on my computer so I checked and I have no problem opening up raw shots from my XT. I have never shot tethered so I can't comment on that.

The only thing that I have found since moving to Windows 7 from XP is that I can no longer connect my camera via USB to my computer and download the images. Not sure if its because I'm using a 64 bit operating system now instead of a 32 bit one or if Canon is just slow in getting new drivers ready.

Just buy a cheap card reader - don't bother using the slow transfer from cam to computer.

Nope that's what canon's site says (in my computer I can't even see it), it says that it will work with zoom browser but I don't use it I use DPP, and says that there is no fix for shooting tethered. So the problem isn't downloading but shooting thetherd I have already bought a card reader since the XT USB is really slow...

Right and how does this resolve the tethered issue?

I believe that there is a way to emulate Windows XP on Windows 7. This should allow you to run your Rebel XT tethered albeit in a virtual environment.

All this talk about windows 7 not recognizing cameras (and I very rarely ever connect directly as I have a card reader) got me scared and I tested out my camera.

Happy to report the 7D connects perfectly fine to Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with the Rebel.

If it makes you feel any better, it also won't let me shoot remotely with my 50D and the EOS utility. We need a driver update, but I'm not sure if they'll get around to something as old as the XT any time soon.

And by the way, running it in compatibility mode for XP doesn't help matters either. So we're SOL for the moment.

LOL well no... it doesn't make me feel any better it makes me feel worse, since the 50D is quite new compared to the XT which means that I may be out of hope with getting something done

It's a Canon/Microsoft conspiracy. To force you to upgrade your cameras to the 7D, 5D2, or the 1D4.

My Canon Eos 400D and 50D both recognise fine in Windows 7. I wonder why your XT is different. Anyway sorry to hear about your bad luck, I am having great results in Windows 7.

well supposedly newer models don't need the WIA driver... After googleling some more I found out that the problem is the tethered control and not the download, if you change the Pc connection option in the camera to PTP you can download the photos from the camera but the remote shooting which is what interests me is disabled...

I emailed canon, and seems that they won't do a WIA driver for the XT in windows 7 64bit, and right now there is no way to make the Rebel xt be seen and work tethered in windows 7 64 bit.
To those that have windows 7 32 bit they say to download the vista driver and install it...

If it will work using Zoombrowser, why not use Zoombrowser?

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.
