Looks like several retailers have lowered the price back to around the $4300 range...

I'll bet it has to do with the USD vs. YEN, not a Canon change. Does this mean you are considering one?

Just ordered my 300mm 2.8 IS two days ago from BH. :) It's scheduled for delivery on Wed!

I'm glad things got delayed in my order on my end, it ended up saving me around $300!

It's hard to believe that it was just $3,500 a year ago!

Prices dropped for a very short time (a couple of weeks) and I think it was around $3,550. Perhaps it was a little over a year ago, but it wasn't too long ago...

I'm with you though -- the recent price increases are completely nuts!

Oh def. MOST of my lenses I could sell for more than I paid for them. I bought all about two years ago and got the amazon gold box deal on all of them. Glass really is the only piece of technology I have ever seen hold its value so well.
