I have downloaded and run a shutter count programme. my 40D had a new shutter fitted about a year ago, would this count be from when the camera was new or just since the new shutter was fitted?

If it's the astrojargon program, I think it shows the total since new (I had the shutter replaced on my 40D also and immediately after it came back with the new shutter the count was around 5k, about when the first one failed).

Yep, astrojargon is the program I used. Seems like it is a Camera actuations count rather than a actual shutter count then - I suspected this from the count I got. Thanks for the feedback.

I would guess that the count would be reset only if a Canon tech reset it. However there are other reasons to keep the count the same. All other parts wear and tear as well, not just the shutter. It could be of great benefit to Canon to know how many actuations the camera has, not just the shutter. I'm sure that there is some database at Canon service that shows the shutter getting replaced at about the 5k mark though.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Does anyone have a link to download the EOS Utility?

I have the Astrojargon program, but not the EOS Utility CD. (AstroJargon doesn't work without the Utility)I've tried to find the software several times on Canon's website with no success. The only programs I have been able to get from the Canon website is the Zoom Browser, Picture Editor, and the Wireless Transmitter Updater.

Roy C - Sorry to hijack your thread.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Click on your camera and look under the software downloads tab.

For older cameras it's there as well but you might have to dig a bit
