So after going through all my youth football images I noticed I captured a few facemasks. Most the refs got, some they totally missed, but I didn't.

This one is my own son, he actually didn't get called for this one and he tackled the running back for a 3 yard loss.

I like to call this one "The Facial and The Facemask" another non-call from the refs.

So let's see your penalty shots. We so often see these kids making great plays, lets see them when they goofy up.

Not exactly 'youth' but high school...wasn't called or seen either... only one I got in 4 varsity and 3 jv, and 4 community college games.

Made the catch, broke free and scored - no call on the play.

This guy actually made a habit out of this, and when I showed these to the coach, he got a quick "re-cap" on the rules!

My contribution.........I like how the player grabbing the face mask isn't willing to put his shoulder into the tackle. Think I'll just stand off to the side and grab a facemask!

This was my favorite facemask play of the season. #3 had just been facemasked and broke free with nothing but open field in front of him. An official saw the facemask and blew the play dead. #3 is looking back saying "You gotta be kidding!", talk about getting robbed.

I love the kid helping the official! That one is too funny. Obviously a student of the game to get the signal right. Even though they almost never call holding at that level.

Keep them coming!

We probably had 8-10 TDs called back for holding this year in Youth League. I love it... twice the opportunity to capture scores... parents buy TD runs regardless if they're called back afterwards. :D

If I have nice shots of a pass on a receiver's fingertips, I've learned not to show the shots afterwards if it ends up as an incompletion. ;)

I caught this one during a JV game at the end of a long reception and run. We (in blue) didn't get the call but in the end it didn't really matter. Our team dominated.

There's nothing worse for an official than an inadvertent whistle on a touchdown. Our umpire had one a few years ago on the first play from scrimmage on one of the best QB sneaks I've ever seen. The QB was about 15 yards down the field when he blew the whistle. He walked over to me and said, "I want to crawl in a f-ing hole." I don't blame him.

As an official, I could probably drop a flag on every single play, name a penalty (usually holding) and would be right about 99% of the time. Unless it is a direct influence on the play, then I will overlook it. If it is safety related, then I'll drop the laundry every time.

Keep something in mind the next time you want to hang the official, there are 22 players and only 5 or less officials. In some cases 2-3 officials watching 22 players, things are going to get missed. Yes it sucks, but that's the way it is.

My son played his first year of FB this year and he's 8. My dad has been an official for 20 years and I've been on for 16. My son has been studying my football rules book. I am totally amazed at how much he's picked up in the short time he's been studying the rules. Some of the questions he comes up with are great. Keep an eye on Titus Moore. You'll see him in the pros someday. Probably as an official, though.
