OK I'm going to try this but I wanted to know if it's possible to get these things to fire 2nd curtain and high speed sync when they are off camera triggered lets say by another 580EX II on a 5D II or by built in flash of a 7D. I know Nikon can do it

The 580 EX II as a master supports high speed sync, but not 2nd curtain sync.
Low power masters like the built-in flash in the 7D does not support HSS. It doesn't have the power to do that.
Canon's current implementation of wireless slave triggering can't handle 2nd curtain sync, so that's regardless of which master you use.

would the ST-E2 handle it?

How about radio poppers?

The Radio Popper wouldn' be able to do anything the master flash or the ST-E2 can't do. That' because, as far as ETTL wireless mode is concerned, all the RP does is convert the IR command signals from the master into RF signals at the Tx end and back into IR again on the RX end.

As for the ST-E2, it can do HSS but not 2nd curtain sync because, as apperson850 said, HSS isn't implemented in the Canon wireless system.

I was doing creative shots at a wedding this past weekend, dragging the shutter 0.6-1 second while popping flash to stop dance motion.

I found about the 2nd curtain slave the hard way. I think the best way to get the flash off camera is to use a single flash with an ETTL cord.

Still a bummer though...

PW MiniTT1/FlexTT5 firmware version 4.364 (currently Beta) allows rear curtain sync and you can select the shutter speed you want 2nd curtain sync to kick in at (from 1/100 down to 1/4).

Reviving an old thread, I know. 2nd curtain can be done off-camera with any Canon EX flash mounted on a remote YN-622. Disable wireless on the 622c that is on-camera. Second curtain will work just fine. Thanks to OldVultureFace and ABSPlastic.
