I been looking for a Canon 200 f/2.8 - 70-200 F/4 just for the extra tight headshot ..

Someone recommended a 135L with the TC - I was wondering what are the pro/cons from doing this and will I get the same results from any of the two lens I mentioned?

Thanks for the info guys ..

No 2 lenses will yield the exact same results. The 135/2 does very well with a 1.4x TC though. What is your budget? What lenses do you already have? Body?

I was pretty dang happy with it - very little loss of IQ with some bonus portrait vignette wide open. I like the cheaper black Kenko one with it. I may be picking the 135L back up very soon... wife loves the tight head shots!

Cool Cool .. It's only going to be used in studio and I was hoping I can get some nice eye (iris) shoots ..

I also thought about getting the 100 Macro but I'm confused to what should I do ..

Here is a tight head shot: 135L + 1.4x Kenko on a 1D3: (My daughter's hair is green due to some coloring she put in it - it is not a faulty lens)

It would be cheaper ti just get a tc and see if you are happy with the results...
When I had one, the results were great.

Pick up the kenko tc. It's about 150 or so.

Not the greatest conditions. Cano 1DM3, 135L and Canon TC II 1.4X. ISO 1600, 1/250s @ f3.2, 189mm reported, 245mm equiv. Plenty of noise, but sharp enough. See this thread page for two more:

That someone is a smart man. Talks you out of spending all that money and trying the cheaper option first. He should be gifted with 10% of what you will save by going with the kenko TC.

Great shots Jesse.

I've been thinking of trading my 70-200 for an 85L and just using the 85L, 135L, 1.4x Kenko combo (85 -135-189. It is such a sharp lens (135) that the minimal degredation by the T.C. should bring it very close to the 200 2.8.

Well, actually I was shopping for a 200/2.8L.

I'd recently bought 135/2 and already had the 1.4X II... So I thought "what the heck" and gave the combo a try.

I immediately decided not to buy a 200mm. At least not for now. Maybe once I save up enough for a 200/2 IS.

Not that the 200/2.8 is a bad lens. Lots of folks seem to love it. I just don't see a need for it in my kit, thanks to the 135 + 1.4X combo.

I have heard that the Kenko "300" 1.4X rivals the Canon 1.4X II for image quality with some lenses. But I'm not sure of this particular combo or made any direct comparison myself.

I have a 135/2L and a 200/2.8L AND a 1.4 TC. Go figure!! The 1.4 TC on either lens works great.

Every time I consider selling the 200/2.8L and just using the 135L + 1.4 TC, I change my mind when I use the 200/2.8L. A wow lens.

But with what you already have, follow earlier suggestions and get the 1.4 TC.

Too much stuff, not enough shooting time.
