how do i get this sharper?

I think you need shutter speed around 1/60th of a second to stop photographer motion. You might need it faster to keep up with the squirrel if it's not stationary. Keep your aperture as wide as possible to allow in as much light as possible, and if that doesn't help, I think the last adjustment you make would be to increase your ISO to get the shot you want. That's just from a basic photography course, I'm sure there are plenty of more knowledgeable people on this board that can give you more detailed advice.

If you havent done so, set your focus point to be the center too. I tend to keep my camera on center focus point and AI Servo.


Via the EXIF of the photo, the settings were: 1/125, f5.6, ISO 800
