My hat is off to you all who shoot field sports all day and not reach for the bottle of Advil when you get home.

I was shooting a track & field event, standing for close to 4 hours, carrying a 1DII with a Sigma 100-30/4 and a 40D with a 24-105/4. I had lots of back pain for the past 2 days. Granted I have serious lower back issues, but I didn't expect this much discomfort. A similar thing happened 3 weeks ago when I was hanging around basketball gyms all day, carrying a bag full of gear.

Now my wife is telling me she doesn't want to see me with my camera bag around the kids' sporting events for a while. I am told it's time to shoot some video.

With Christmas around the corner, a lighter body for sports is beginning to sound very appealing. T1i? (& 85 for gyms, & 70-210 for fields)

Can't go wrong with a T1I, I used a friends Nikon d70 I believe an it was heavy, when I picked up my T1I I almost dropped the darn thing it was so light, I was swinging it around like it was nothing.

I agree... I use a T1i as a 2nd body to my 1D2. Nice pairing... great for low-light, high-ISO (6400/12800), more megapixels to crop from, HD video to tinker with, plus 1.6x (vs 1.3 on the 1D2) so it's like having a TC built in without taking the 1-stop hit... your zooms stretch a little bit further, but still stay fast.

The AF is pretty good on the T1i. For no real reason, I shot the entire Youth Football Championship games on Saturday with it and kept my 1D2 in my backpack...

These are all with the T1i...

But in shooting the State Quarterfinals for Varsity VB last night, I used both bodies and in reviewing the pictures, the 1D2 really shined... the AF is spot on and my keeper rate was twice as good.

I bought my T1i before the 7D was announced... the 7D adds even more, but for $1000 more than the T1i, I'm not sure I could justify that, especially as a 2nd body.

Clarence;
Your night shots with the T1i have always impressed me. I don't know if it's the camera or your high ISO processing skills, nevertheless, they look fantastic. Gaining a stop or so over my 40D and 1DII would be a great welcome.

Thanks.

With so many pictures, I don't do much processing on my pictures at all. If it's over ISO 1600 I'll run them through a batch job with the default settings in Neatimage. Then I spend <30 seconds per picture in Picasa to straighten horizons and crop.

If I'm shooting more than one one field sport game/match, I'll break out the monopod. I'm really sore after a weekend-long basketball tourney though. :)

It's my knees that kill me... from kneeling to get low. I bring my Home Depot kneepads.

I've also used the floormat from my Jeep to sit on... that's a lot more comfortable than kneeling for 8 hours.

Those are great photos Clarence. I'm starting to think I need to work on my skills and not blame the equipment :)

I did that and after spending a few $s I realized the same thing.
