I am in need of a faster card, i have a 2GB Ultra II from Sandisk, and i would like to get a faster card in 4GBs. I was looking at the Sandisk Extreme IV and Hoodman RAW, but both are UDMA. I read online that the 30D isn't UDMA compliant. Does that mean i can't use either card for my camera, or does it just mean i can't use the UDMA features?

you can use the cards but your 30d wont be any faster because it does not utilize the UDMA advantages

So for example, the Extreme IV has 45MB/s read/write speed, can the 30D use that speed? Like what are the advantages of UDMA?

UDMA is significantly faster than an older, non UDMA card. Your 30d won't take advantage of this speed, but when you go to download the cards, as long as you use a UDMA card reader you'll see a significant speed advantage.

Ok, so how much of the 45MB/s will the 30D use with the Extreme IV?

One final question, does this card (external link) have UDMA? I looked up the manufacturer # on google, and some sites had it as being UDMA, while some didn't. Which is true?

i dont know specifically how much of the 45mb/sec it will use but def not all.

i do believe that card you listed is UDMA but im not sure. 40mb/sec seems like UDMA speed to me

How much? about 7-8mb/s (less than 20%). Unless you work in a high paced field where you don't have time to wait for a download, get an extreme iii or even just an ultra II.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Your 30D realistically cant take advantage of any speed increases over the Ultra II cards or 133x Cards (Heck, neither can the 40D). There is no point in paying more for a card, unless you are planning on upgrading soon (In which case, depending on the camera you plan to upgrade to, buy the best you can afford). However, the cheaper cards will obviously still be useable in newer cameras, they will just feel a bit slow. I thoroughly recommend the Transcend 133x 8GB cards, bargain, good quality, and loads of storage.
