Audio-Technica AT897 shotgun mic with battery (external link) + 25' XLR cable + XLR to 1/4" or 1/8" mini adapter + M-Audio Microtrack 2 (external link)?

How about with the Sony_ECM55B (external link) instead of the shotgun?

Will this mic work with this recorder connected directly? it sounds like I may need this 10 dB attenuator (external link) from m-audio.

Looking for a carbon tripod and head capable of supporting a 5D body and 35 mm L
