I can only see 1 and 3 at work, some weird firewall blocking maybe. 3 looks better than 1 to me because there's a better overall balance of the colors (blue left, girl, green right); 1 has less balance with just the green to the right. These shots really bring out her natural sparkle.

EDIT: At home now and can see 2 - also a great shot. These are all great, but I do like the balance of colors/subject in 2 and 3 better.

Some Canon stuff and a little bit of Yongnuo.

First off.. thanks everybody for the positive comments..

the peer group here makes me try hard on every shoot so i keep my standards up..

the set up here is

5 speedlights..

3 in the back ground.

1 in the front for fill, and the kicker hair highlight was a snooted camera right.. just enough to get more of her hair to pop..
i had tried with out this light and the back white light on the stand was pointing down to light up the wet pavement and was not enough to light her hair, so i put and aimed the snooted at her hair..
it does look like the back middle white light was doing the job but it was the hidden snoot !

Great work Phamster, I have been planning on doing something with wet pavement and gels for a shoot with my daughter. I can't see the exif data from this computer but will have to check that out so see how you got the pavement light so bright.

Skip

data is this.

iso 320,
fstop 7.1
shutter 1/125 don't know why but i stuck with it.. being it was all speed lights so i could have shot 1/200 and still got the same results.. - count it as a mistake and i will learn from it..

Should I ask how you got the gels onto the parking lot lights?

Jon.

all of them are great. i was wondering the same thing about the gels

the background lights was 3 speed lights.. middle white one was on a very light weight stand that i cloned out, it was slightly visible..

the green one was held by mother camera background right.

i figured it all about the wide out shot vs the crop.. LOL..

no problems ha ha.. i think i see what you are talking about now.. her right eye has more white in the corners.. yep..!

here is the 100% crop.. shooting @ 7.1 or higher really makes every sharp..

That's an intense lighting setup, but I love the results.

Phamster I have a question for you... I watch these shots you post and am inspired to start playing with off camera flash more. But one thing I'm curious about, if you are shooting with your AB1600 in the field, how are you powering it?

I currently have 2 Calumet Genesis 200s but I never take them outside because I don't think they are powerful enough and I am not sure what I would do for power in the middle of a field somewhere.

When I was looking at the first shot, I was thinking it be cool to add a blue gel to camera left to play off the colors on the top she is wearing. Then I scroll down... very nice! The 85 is an amazing lens - even more so when it's stopped down. Thanks for all the behind the scenes info on the shots!

I just picked up a 35L at an estate sale yesterday. I'll have to try some shots tonight to see what I get with the star effect.
