I shot these two photos and can't decide if looking a the camera or looking away from the camera is better. Would love to hear your feedback the good the bad and the ugly.

Thanks

Hi. I almost think you might have moved yourself so that you could have taken shot 2 as they were looking at you. I think the lighting is more balanced in that shot.

Yeah, I'd agree that the lighting is slightly more balanced in the second, but I actually like the first better. I like seeing the eyes more.

Hannya this is a great point I don't know why I didn't just move over. Sometimes we forget the simple solutions.

Thanks all for the input.

i think 2 looks better because of lighting. #1 is the better shot and would have worked had the main been moved to about the 7-8 oclock position. i think the main was not positioned right in #1.

I think that #2 is better, it is more natural. The first one is very blah, like almost made to smile.

Thank you all for your great comments it looks like we have a consensus number 1 because of eye contact and number two for lighting. Thanks for the nput I will probably reshoot this with some of the suggestions here and will repost it later. This has been very helpful.

Thanks for all the great responses.

Slicer I know this and did even tell the kids I wanted them on different planes before taking the shot but they got laughing and my arrangement went out the window and I snapped them anyway. Thanks for the tip I do understand what you are saying. We are going to shoot again tomorrow so we will try it again.

1 is good, but the shadows kill it,
2 is natural, but almost too angled for my liking
