Hi all,

Was not sure where to post this so thought here would work.

I have a problem with my Camera, When ever I photograph a white light I see reflection in my camera. I can see it through the eye piece and then it shows in my picture.

I first noticed it when photographing street lamps which had a white light although cant find any samples on my computer.

The sample I have below shows the light reflection. Although the sample shows the light pointing directly in to the lens , it will also do the same thing when pointing at an angle.

I have tried to clean the mirror and sensor but its not changed anything.

What would be the cause and how would I go about fixing it?

Sorry for the poor photo, I took whilst testing.

Thank you.

Are you perhaps using an inexpensive filter that is not coated? It could be a reflection off that glass.

Hmmm..... that stumps me. Does this exact same thing happen identically with ALL of your lenses? And also with no filters on?

And does it just happen with point light sources? In other words, say you had a bare bulb lamp in your livingroom - would the same thing happen? I assume there are no smudges on the inside of the filter or anything. I'm racking my brain here.....

There's no problem with your camera - or lens.
That's just lens flare.
Not a lot you can do about it except change the angle of view so the light doesn't hit at the angle that causes it.

Yes, Happens with all lenses and with no filters on.

I just took this one for you to see. I changed lens and had no filter on. This one is with a 50mm

If that is all it is then I can live with that.

Just plain old lens flare.

Basically every time light hits a lens surface, it gets bent and over a series of these it can show up as flare.

Some lenses take care of it by way of coatings, others by using different lens materials. Others just dont handle it well at all.

Best lenses I ever had were those made by Zeiss when I shot Hasselblad. Just about every one of those you could virtually shoot into the sun and get wonderful, flare free results.

Then I switched to Canon; some are terrific and give wonderful results, some less so.....

I have had my Camera 1 year and believe the warranty has JUST ran out so need to try see what's up with it.

Again, this is NOT a warranty issue with your camera. Light reflecting on the elements of your lens is the cause.

Agreed. Somehow it's the technique you're using.

QUOTED IMAGE

As Highbarger said - light reflecting within the lens elements - it does sometimes happen when taking dark photos with very bright light sources.

Only answer that i can come up with is take of any filters you are using - the more glass the higher the chance for this (it is quite often between the filter and the front element).

Other than that - be prepared for lots of PP work.

I can hardly believe the last image, I tried really hard with a couple of my lenses and I had major trouble getting anything noticable from a bright LED or normal lightbulb. Yours seems perfectly reflected through the centre point. Must be the lens but very odd. What lens were you using?
