So I was asked to shoot a team photo for my son's youth football team. Not the easiest thing in the world to do. Getting the attention of 16 goofy 11-12 year olds is really tough. Add to that failing gear (one strobe wouldn't fire) a coach that wants to practise before the game and grumpy parents, not much help from the team mom and and a son that wouldn't keep still, I think I'm lucky to get what I did.

Anyhow, after many layers and lots of messing with I think the Coaches gifts are done. I even had to gift wrap them for the presentation.

The image was left framed the way you see it here. The print of this came out centered and even.
C&C please... Thanks!

I changed out the original image for one that doesn't have the kids names.

I actually like the barrel distortion, fits with the goofy feel of the picture.

Looks like it was shot with a wide angle lens. Barrel distortion is very visible, maybe next time stand back a bit further and use less of a wide angle.

Yeah, the photo looks pretty good, but that was the first thing I noticed as well. Also makes me eat my words from a post in the Tokina thread where I said that it would be ok for a big group. That's why I love this forum...get to learn lots to go out and try...when time permits. Nice shot though.

Understand your frustration completly when it comes to taking a team picture. I take a lot of pictures for my son's baseball team throughout the season and when it comes to the team pictures.......the best way I can describe it is organized chaos sometimes. I usually turn into the grumpy photographer and tell the parents if they want the team picture then get involved and get "your" kids under control or no picture. That usually helps. I also ask the coaches / players to be at the games well in advance for pictures for this exact reason. They usually don't like it very much, but then again, who is taking the picture.....me. My rules. Otherwise, given the situation not a bad picture. I'm not a big fan of the "hand signs" being shown by some, but that is just me.

This is an observation and a personal sensitivity on my part. I wouldn't have posted a picture of kids with their full name on the Internet.

Why, are you a stocker or pedifile? Just kidding...

Maybe you're right, I'll change it.

I like it. Only change (for next time) maybe have the helmet in front turned 90 degrees so the team logo is visible in the shot.

At first I was worried about that too. Especially with the more serious image I have of the kids. The barrel distortion is much more evident in that one. But this one I think is fine. Several of the parents that I have shown this to all liked it, saying that it was much better than the standard posed soldiers pictures they normally get.

I did take it with my (at the time) newly aquired Tamron 10-24. Maybe next time I use that lense I'll be watching for that, unless that's what I'm trying to go for.

I knew someone would say that, but thank you. I keep kicking myself for not doing that. It was one of the first things I noticed when reviewing them later. There are so many little things to watch for when doing one of these.

LOL, some things are so obvious when you see them after.

I'm not much of a Photoshop wizard, but I suppose it could be done
