I took some quick shots in the freezing wind a few hours ago.

CC on lighting, poses and composition would be highly appreciated!

The first shot works best for me, but I wish the white flash reflection on his face wasn't as pronounced. The last doesn't work as the eyes are closed and it looks as if he's looked away at the last moment.

Thanks Chris. It's addicting...I only have two flashes so far radio triggered by Yongnuo. I only used 1 580EXII in this picture though.

I really need to get a lightstand..

Nice shots very dramatic I really like the first two. I might have added a little more light to them but they are nice as they are. I agree witht he last one it is not as dramatic.

I hear ya. I wanted more light and wanted to experiment more but it was very cold and the subjects were getting a little impatient lol

Yeah, for that shot, frank (guy with fedora) would hold the flash for me when I took pictures of Jae (guy with leather jacket) and vice versa :)

I would suggest looking for forum members here or fredmiranda who are selling their speedlite unless you don't trust or want it right away and brand new

thats awesome, thanks. i could tell that it was off-camera, just really new to lighting and am curious about different ways of using a speedlite, mostly off-camera.

i'll prolly stick to b&h as $400 is very reasonable considering stores sell them here for $600+. pictures look great, thanks for sharing.

I bought my 580EX II for $330 but whatever works for you :)

You can use Yongnuo, Pocket Wizards, ttl wires, cactus, ST-E2, and a handful of other devices to OCF

good luck! it was definitely a leap for me going to OCF and i dont regret it.

i like everything about number 1. I don't mind the hot spot on his face, kinda like it actually. What i really like is the light isolation on his face and good backround exposure making it a moody dark photo. i think 2 and 3 the flash was a little underexposed. love the overall look of the photo's
