Now this one I can believe. It's definitely in-line with prior Apple Black Friday discounts.

Congratulations! ... enjoy your new Mac

If you decide you want the Apple Care Protection insurance on that ... you can get it pretty cheap (almost 1/2 price) from several eBay merchants who do nothing but sell these. They will simply email you the authorization code after your purchase and you can register it immediately. You can get that anytime within the first year of ownership and it adds an additional 2 years for 3 years total coverage.

Thanks! I was going to get the best buy protection plan...3 years..$350

Anything happens to it and they can't fix it, they'll replace it.

Yikes! As you're hopefully finding out, you can get the same length of coverage for less cost with absolutely superior customer service through Applecare.

Congrats on the new machine!

Applecare is $250 for 3 years. I would definitely go with that over anything that Best Buy offers. hfgarris above mentioned that eBay sellers have Applecare for 1/2 price so that'd be only $125.

Yeah ... I would pass on the Best Buy plan. I wouldn't want those Geek guys even touching my gear. Plus, read ALL the fine print on the policy and don't believe ANYTHING the salesman TELLS you it covers!

Get the Apple Care if you want additional coverage! Much better!!!

Plus with Best Buy, it may take days (and perhaps weeks) to fix your computer if it breaks. With Apple, they will often swap your machine out for a new one if the problem is serious or complex.

Just something else to consider,
Bryan

Two best deals for Apple going are to either join the NAPP and get their discount, or get someone in academia to purchase one for you with their educational discount.

That would not be considered a manufacturing defect caused failure covered under warranty. No manufacturer is going to cover user abuse.

User caused damage would require your homeowners insurance or a separate rider (I have a separate rider covering my camera and computer equipment).
