We overdosed on turkey over the weekend. The remains are in the freezer.

R.I.P., Turkey.

We are in the process of over dosing. We had our T-day early so we could send of son#3. Georgous place. Anyway, we have lots of turkey left over.
This is the cabin we rented.

Thanx. Thats just the Chicago crew. Have a group almost the same size in Cali and Ohio. And Hawaii folks are much larger. Few in Ga, Maine, New Mex, and a few other places.

Impressive family....BTW, which one is you?

Here's an interesting photo (external link). They've mislabeled it as being from the 1930's, abut it's much earlier than that. Early 1920's or late teens would be much more like it. Anyway, I think any one of us would be proud to have taken it, regardless of era. (make sure you click on it to see it full size).

Good gravy Cat, I thought I had a busy/productive day. You made me look like a lazy sloth!

Oh whatever. I can't imagine chasing after 2 little kids all day. What you young moms do totally impresses me.

And we went to 4 shelters yesterday. I forgot to list one. The one that needed all their dogs gone and needed every rescue to take 2 dogs. When we got there, there was only 1 to take, so that was good.

Woolburr wrote in post #9071708 (external link)

No. We did T'giving early because Lois' brother was in town, and we weren't sure he'd be here again on Thursday. Turns out he will, so I have a nice Ribeye roast to do instead. I have some of the turkey frozen, so if someone wants a sandwich, I can always thaw it out.

Hey...congrats on cracking the top 100!! That's quite an accomplishment for such a bunch of newbies.

Dan.....ya......well, don't know what to say, but I sure got a great chuckle outta our catch up post.

You may know this, but Canon does have a pair. LINK (external link)
They get great reviews.

Haven't got those, but judging by my 15x45 and 10x30 non-L, they'll be simply amazing.

I have a pair of $50 bushnells that are serving me well. But I do like to window shop.

I have a pair of $50 Bushnell 8x40s and there's no comparison.

BearLeeAlive wrote in post #9070648 (external link)
Street prices are about $1,000-$1,100.

I don't know. It would almost seem like for $1k you get a lot more optics then many Canon lenses of the same price. I tried out a pair and they really are great, so clear and bright. I bought the Canon 10x30 IS binos, and we are real happy with them. I think we paid around $400.

About what ours ran. And they're simply amazing, aren't they?

Chief, how did you find that? And do you know how to put the accent over the E?

Windows? Programs | Accessories | System Tools (I move a bunch of my most-used shortcuts like that one up a level). Or you can enable the US-International Keyboard (Control Panel | Regional and Language Options | Languages | Details, click on "Keyboards", then Ädd"US - International. Once you've enabled that, typing "a, or " e, "i, " o, "u gives you the ümlauted version; typing 'a 'c 'e 'i 'o ' u gives you á ç é í ó ú and using the `instead gives you è ì ò ù. Right-alt S gives you ß, and there are a bunch of others. To get a straight ' or " in front of one of their letters, you need to include a space after it. But any letter that isn't affected by the preceding " or ' doesn't need the space.

*sniffs and wipes some eye leakage* You're very special Deb.

Wow, that's uh....GREAT! :D

 DEB!

LOL, Kody as a genetic gap. That makes him....less than human but higher on the evolutionary scale than primates....interesting!

Eeeks, I'm glad she'll be ok!

GADS! Thank goodness no one tried to decifer the comic from the middle. ;)

Good gravy Cat, I thought I had a busy/productive day. You made me look like a lazy sloth!

Wonderful! I hope he decides to listen and not grumble too much.

And if you're on a laptop, you may need to add the Fn key to those you hold down.

Evening everyone, I am not long for this world. Hoping for a lovely, swift visit from the sand man.

If you're on a laptop you probably need to enable the embedded numeric keypad, which is a manufacturer's Fn key. Unless I'm on the road, my laptops all plug into real keyboards.

Hmm... I've been looking at getting a pair of Canon Bins. I get a bit confused about the 10x30 numbers (I know that one is zoom and the other is area of view, but I don't know what they'd appear like). I don't really want to go into a shop and experiment as I know I'll probably end up paying too much.

This room is the officer's quarters. That's why the woodwork is a little more ornate that the rest of the place.

For me, it's "Tum" :D

10x is the magnification, 30 is the diameter of the front element (think aperture). Magnification is, IIRC, canonically objective/ocular (or exit pupil). The bigger the front element for any given magnification, the brighter the view (the better the low-light performance). Field of View is a separate design characteristic, usually given in feet at 1000 ft. distance; you can think of it sort of as the image circle of your binoculars; you can have, say, 7x-something binoculars with a variety of FoV measures.

I'd definitely agree with your early post-Great War dating. Boaters and the skirt lengths, never mind the auto styles say that.

Good Morning

Great shot of Candi, Mike. :D

Good on you, that will be one BIG puppy dog. How old is it>

I know a few Dan's, so I wouldn't have trouble with it. :p
Your last name on the other hand, not sure. :D

The first number is the zoom. 30mm objective lens is quite good for most parts of the day, 42mm will extend your viewing by at least 15 minutes either side of the day, which is important to many bird watchers, as the birds are often very active then.

Thanks Jim.
Do you have the canonL glasses?

One other thing I noticed in that photo is the women are all dressed up like they're headed for church. In some parts of the country, that continued well into the 50's. My wife has memories as a young girl of going shopping in Scranton, PA, wearing a hat and gloves (and clothes, presumably). Anything less just wasn't done.
