I've often wondered if using something like a Color Checker Passport (and matching software) would allow one to easily remove odd color casts.

I'll have to give it a shot (I have the older style HiTech 10 Stop w some magenta cast) and report back. :)

Even simple eyedropper white balance on a grey/white surface works

I've tried that, with moderate success - it is never the perfect fix that I really want it to be! :)

For some time now i have been following this thread. AMAZING pictures!!!
At this moment i cannot afford a ND filter, so i have been experimenting with a welding mask glass. There is a reaaally strong yellow/greenish cast, but for b&w photos it actually works quite well.

So this thread inspired me to make my own DIY ND filter. I glued a plate of welding glass to a 77mm-82mm step-up ring to use on all of my 77mm lenses. It gives me about 15 stops of density. The only problem is that the images come out with a very strong green color cast. I've done my best job color correcting, but am not yet satisfied. Any C&C on the color or anything else is more than welcome. Thanks in advance, and great job with this thread everybody! It's truly magnificent.

I have also tried the back and white and i have the same color cast problem. Still trying but never got results as nice as yours!

So, here goes one of my pictures! It is from a shed here in our farm.
Shot with 400D, Tam 28-75mm f/2.8 @28mm, welding glass (i guess about 10stops), 90s and some PP in Lightroom.

C&C are very appreciated! :)

My very first attempt. I thought this creek would be a bit more raging after Irene, but oh well...

This shot was not composed correctly (i.e. the tree especially) but it was my first attempt at using welders glass to try and accomplish what a 10 stop ND filter does. c-n-c are welcome. Oh and this shot was M mode, 30sec exp, F14, ISO 100, taken at about 830pm so it was much darker than the image suggests.

I apologize for not reading through the entire post to see if the subject has come up but does anyone ever stack two polarizer filters (and turn them as needed) to accomplish what a 10 stop ND does? I've used welding glass and tried a few other things but I was curious what others experience was with this.
