first try or not.. nice photo!

just one question for all the pros on here.. is this with a grad?

if not, how do you keep the bright sky in check with just an ND?

I am no pro, by any means, but the way I see that image, The light in that image doesn't look like it needed a graduated filter, it looks to be from overhead, so the field of grass was in good sun and the sun was just behind the camera position...so the sky exposure was similar to the field.

Like the skateboard shot above, would be cool with the wheels spinning too.

You can couple a ND with a grad. I do it routinely but usually only when the sun is in the frame. Also coupling a polarizer with a ND gives you a stronger ND with polarizing affects. Read my tutorial blog post about it all here. Hopefully it'll help guide you in the right direction!

If you're using a "Big Stopper" I'd put the CPL first... ;) unless you have a LEE FK CPL too...

I always go B+W #110 then B+W CPL... I don't know if it makes a difference but with the 10-stop attached and then the CPL I can more easily see the effect of rotating it when I use my Z-Finder (don't know why but I can). Also, it's harder to rotate the CPL when it's on first since the rotating ring is so thin it's hard to grasp it when you have an ND filter screwed to it.

Just my experiences... not saying it's the best/right way...

I tried my B&W #110 this weekend combined with a Hoya CPL. I found it easier to put the CPL on first, adjust it to where I wanted it, then mount the ND on top of that. A couple of times I did have to dismount the ND and start over again, but it was not that much of a problem.

I usually put the 10 stop in the 1st slot closest to the camera, then the polarizer in the second slot. This is the Lee 4x4 CPL btw. If you are using a screw-on system I don't think the order matters.

After I thought about it you can't see squat with the 9 stop on so the CPL first for the right look then the 9 stop. No, I don't have the Lee system

9 stop only at f/9, 2.5 sec, ISO 100. Need more practice.
