8 min exposure with a Big Stopper. This is definitely darker than I typically like to go, but it's virtually spot-on to the real lighting of the scene so I didn't see a need to screw with it. I was hoping the storm clouds would part ways for some great golden hour light, but the blue tones have an appeal of their own, I suppose.

last time i took an 8 minute shot, I had a lot of sensor noise :(

actually, this is a 10 min shot, but you can clearly see the noise and graininess from it:

I get a lot of noise on my 7D when I get over 2 minutes. Especially in anything that is at all under exposed. I have done quite a few at 5 minutes with my 5DII with little to no noise...and minor NR takes care of it...

It was shot with a 1Ds III so I was pleasantly surprised with the low amount of noise. I would have used my 6D, but the rain was on and off so I didn't want to risk it.

I definitely like using the 1Ds whenever I can since it has the nifty viewfinder cover built right it. Before I started messing with long exposures, I always wondered why is was necessary to have an integrated cover (I knew what it was for, but just assumed it was rarely used by anyone.) However, now that I'm shooting a bit more with the NDs, I can't live without it.

I have only had the light through the viewfinder issue once...but the sun was DIRECTLY behind me and the camera...I was facing straight east...it blew that exposure up bad...now if I think it might be a problem, I cover it with my hat.

I use the Big Stopper on the TS-E 17 and even a tiny amount of light causes a horrible reflection on the inside of the filter from the lens's bulbous front element, regardless of the sun's position. Although I am in Florida, and our sun is about 10x more intense than anywhere else this time of year, haha.

This was only a 60sec exposure when I forgot to shut it:

The one good thing about it being so obvious is that if I do happen to forget to shut the viewfinder, the first shot will remind me almost instantly, haha.
