Cool shot. There is so much dust on your sensor/lens that it's distracting from the scene.

Thanks Mesmer.
Yep dust on my sensor. My body has been flogged hard and really need a good service. I never noticed it until this long exposure.

Been waiting for the AUD to rise again so I can get the Big and Little stopped from BH but considering it keeps dropping, I have made the executive decision to get Haida filters instead. From reviews I've seen they offer the same quality at a much cheaper price, in fact for what I'd pay for the big Stopper alone I can get both the 6 and 10 stop Haida locally.

How many people here use the Haida 10 stop?

dust spot central!

I had to clone out a few on this one...10 minutes, with the Firecrest 16, then pulled three full stops in post...

I haven't used the Haida filters however, I do have a hitech formatt firecrest 10 stop and from what I hear the color cast seen in the big stopper is not an issue in the firecrest. I surely haven't noticed a cast. It's only about 10 USD cheaper but I am happy with it.

Color cast doesn't bother me too much since it can easily be removed in post, its more just the general price and if there's any image degradation.

I can get the 10 stop Haida locally for only $150 and the 6 stop for only $120.

Heya,

I just recently sold my Lee filters and Formatt Hitech filters and picked up Haidas. I got a Haida 10 stop PROII for $60 on Amazon. Same glass as B+W (SCHOTT). Fantastic filter for the cost. I was getting ready to drop a load on Breakthrough Photography filters, but ultimately decided to keep it simple and inexpensive, because as others have mentioned, any color cast can be mostly corrected. The Haida has a bit of a blue tint to it. Easy to correct. Again, for cost, great filter.

Very best,

Hello

That's the circular one right? I actually have the B+W 10 stop currently and the quality definitely is really good. For the price, the Haida are much more appealing to me, especially since every review I've read has said they are equal quality. I'll be getting the square 100 series and might get their polarizer later on too, then I'll be posting in here a lot more (I don't like my circular filters so I rarely use them).

I got the Haida after seeing some photos with it. Maybe some blue cast, but not much, and suits the shots anyway. I recommend them, however I am very much an amateur.

I got the circular but do find it a pain to use sometimes. Be interested to hear how you go with the square ones. I have really cheap square filters, but they give a magenta cast which I can't always get rid of. However it was worth it to see if I enjoyed that style of photography - which I do.

Me too which is why I want to switch to circular. I find it a hassle to screw and unscrew it if I want to quickly meter my image. I also like to do 4 minute or longer exposures during last light so by the time you meter the image and get the filter back on, the light has already fallen even more -?

I now just have to quickly figure out where to buy them, local or when I go HK!

I think I went the ebay way, as NZ is so far away for that kind of gear. Perth the same I expect :-)

I have a sister in Collie BTW but haven't been over since 2010.

Here's one of mine - not an amazing photo I realise, but as you can see colour is okay.

Yeah the place I could buy the Haida filters in Australia is Fotogenic. Lucky you managed to find them on Ebay, I couldn't see anything decently priced on there. I've never actually been there, I don't travel outside the city much haha.

Thanks and yeah that does look good!

I think it was ebay .... cheaper than NZ anyway. Actually i don't think I could get them here without ordering in.

Collie is not really tourist material I think :-)

Enjoy Hong Kong!
