I realized yesterday that I had never done a "real" long exposure with the 5D4. I did many with my 5D2 and anything over 3 minutes or so was a mess to work with. Lots of hot pixels, terrible LE noise, color noise, etc. It usually required extensive work in Lr then a trip to Ps to get a decently suitable image. I decided to see what the 5D4 was like in long exposures. This is a 7 minute shot at ISO 200, using a Lee Big Stopper near sunrise:

This isn't a final edit, the image itself isn't that spectacular but I was literally amazed at the sensor performance. I had maybe 8 or 9 hot pixels, and the noise was very minimal. Shadow noise looked fine. It has my "standard" Lr noise reduction of 10 applied and that is all it really needs. The difference between this and the 5D2 is really significant. Thought I would share. John

Really nice attempt...............but(isn't there always a but!)............your horizon seems a little off. It's seems to be leaning to the left which is a little distracting:-):-):-)

respectfully,

tw

Don't even begin to think I'm criticizing your images.
Just a natural curiosity.

I think you have a couple of things going on here. Originally it was slanted to the left, I had looked at the trees in the background and saw it there. It appears you have straightened that part some although it still looks like the very back trees are to the left a little. The trees on the right side of the stream look pretty straight though. The image still feels like it is slanted, but I have a question:

Are those cascades in the image closer to you on the right side vs. the left side? Meaning are that at an angle across the stream? You could be seeing an optical illusion due to the wide angle and the low perspective you chose for the shot.

It's a nice shot, and I think you did well with the harsh lighting. If the above is what you were dealing with, you might play around with the perspective a little (meaning shoot from a little higher or a different angle to see if that helps with those situations. I've run into this many times myself.

Not trying to preach to you, just trying to help you out.

Not the image I posted earlier, this was shot a little later in the morning with less exposure. The clear spot in the sky added a little to it I think.
